Meet The Founder

David Kane

My love for sports began at an early age and I’ve cherished every sport at every level for as long as I can remember. This passion sparked when, at the age of six, my family moved to Massachusetts, USA. Our garden backed onto the Mount Holyoke University Sports Fields, where I spent countless hours playing or watching sports, immersing myself in a vibrant and diverse sporting culture.

Over the years, I developed a deep appreciation for various sports, competing in school, club and individual tournaments. These experiences gave me invaluable insight into sporting systems, from grassroots participation to elite performance.

At 16, after finishing school, I pursued full-time tennis, learning valuable lessons from both positive and challenging experiences. My academic journey included studying Sport in Excellence and Performance at college, followed by a degree in Sport Psychology and Coaching at university. During this time, I worked part-time in various sports-related roles, including coaching, racquet restringing, assisting in sports shops and managing sports venues.

After university, I worked as a Sports Development Officer in Southwest London, where I collaborated with a diverse range of sports and organisations to promote participation and development across communities.

In 2018, I decided to focus on coaching tennis full-time and I have worked with clubs, parks, schools, universities and tennis holidays. My roles working with these organisations has varied from on court coaching to off court management and everything in between.

Inspired by my diverse experiences and the positive impact sports have on individuals and communities, I founded Sport Inside Out to help organisations unlock their potential through physical activity.

Today, my focus is on using my expertise to bridge the gap between organisations and the transformative power of sports. Through Sport Inside Out, I aim to create tailored programs that promote physical activity, teamwork, and well-being in workplaces, schools, and beyond.

Favourite Sports Person?

I have lots but if I was to choose one it would probably be Maria Sharapova. Her game, what she created and where she came from. She's an inspiring figure.

Best Sporting Memory?

There's so many but one that always sticks out is waking up switching on the TV, to see Jonny Wilkinson kick the drop goal to win the Rugby World Cup against Australia 2003. The timing I turned on the TV was unbelievable, I was sure it was a highlight as I had overslept but it was with 26 seconds left in extra time! Turned out to be one of the greatest sporting moments in history.

Favourite Time of Year

It's got to be when Wimbledon comes around! Not just the 2 weeks at SW19 but also the build up events & qualifying.
